OSHKOSH (AP) - The day after he won Wisconsin's U.S. Senate election, Republican Ron Johnson says he's more qualified for the position than he's given credit for.
Johnson defeated incumbent Russ Feingold on Tuesday, denying the Democrat his fourth term.
The 55-year-old Johnson has no political experience. As the president of a private plastics firm, he ran on his 31 years of accounting and manufacturing experience.
He said Wednesday that his business experience is highly relevant to politics. He also says he watches the news regularly so he stays well-informed.
Johnson says his top priorities are to establish a firm cap on government spending and to repeal the health care law.
He also says he hopes President Barack Obama heard the clear message voters sent Tuesday.
Unofficial results show Johnson won, 52 percent to 47 percent. That represents a margin of about 103,000 votes out of 2.2 million votes cast.
