GREEN BAY (AP) - A doctor running to replace U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen is dropping out and endorsing state Rep. Roger Roth for the Republican Party nomination.
Radiologist Marc Trager had been campaigning for the 8th Congressional District in northeastern Wisconsin for months. At an event Tuesday in Green Bay, the 64-year-old is telling supporters he has health issues that need his attention.
Trager is praising Roth's experience as a legislator, a military veteran and a businessman. He says he believes Roth will defeat Kagen and bring "commonsense, conservative principles back to the 8th District."
The crowded field of Republicans hoping to take on Kagen includes Kaukauna businessman Reid Ribble, former state Rep. Terri McCormick, Door County farmer Marc Savard and former Brown County Supervisor Andy Williams. The primary is Sept. 14.
