A Manitowoc native and Lawrence University graduate has won an Emmy award.
Garth Neustadter was honored Sunday night at the 2011 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Neustadter was recognized for his work on the documentary “John Muir in the New World,” which aired on PBS in April. The documentary on Muir, a naturalist, author and scientist who grew up in Wisconsin, was written, produced and directed by Catherine Tate, a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton.
Neustadter, 25, graduated from Lawrence in 2010 with a music degree. He is currently studying music at the postgraduate level at Yale University.
"Of course I was shocked when I heard my name called and it took a few seconds for it to sink in," Neustadter said from Los Angeles, according to a Lawrence news release. "Then I realized I only had a limited amount of time to go up to the stage, accept the award and make a short speech. They only give you 45 seconds from the time they announced the award, so you have to think fast and hurry up to the stage. Everything was kind of a blur, I couldn’t think very clearly."
Neustadter wrote the score while he was still a student at Lawrence. The music was performed by students in the school’s Conservatory of Music.
A separate ceremony, the Primetime Emmy Awards, will be aired live Sept. 18 on FOX 11.
