The United States Postal Service expects to mail nearly 16 billion cards, letters and packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve this year.

If you're planning on spreading holiday cheer through the mail this year, there are several mail-by dates to keep in mind:

Dec. 4 --  Military mail destined for Iraq or Afghanistan

Dec. 11 -- Military mail for other overseas bases

Dec. 16 -- Parcel Post, the most economical shipping service

Dec. 21 -- First-Class Mail

Dec. 21 -- Priority Mail

Dec. 23 -- Express Mail
