My iPod Touch is a device that I take everywhere.  I’m too cheap for an iPhone, but the touch does a great job at getting my emails and surfing the web (when in wifi range).  So I was very sad when I unknowingly put my beloved Apple device in the clothes washer.  My mini computer swam for a good half hour with my dress shirts.  After completing the spin cycle I found the thin black rectangle in the bottom of the wash tub D.O.A.  My wife heard me utter a few "choice words" when I thought I killed my Touch.  Carol, being a practical and level headed gal suggested putting my drowned device in a bag of rice for a few days, to draw the moisture out.  "No way that would ever work" I thought, but I’ll try it before I shell out one hundred and ninety bucks for a new one.  I packed a zip lock bag with regular dry rice and placed the Touch inside.  Every day I’d turn the bag at a different angle so the water would drain out.  A week later and I hooked up a USB cord to my Touch and plugged it into my PC, a few seconds later I heard a beep and the Touch started charging!  The only thing I had to do once it was charged was to reset the clock, my Touch worked fine, and thanks to a wash looked newer too!  I lucked out that my Touch was not on when it entered the water, if it was on it may have shorted it out.  If you have a phone or piece of electronics that goes for a swim give the rice trick a try before investing in a new one, it worked for me!
