Checking in on the porcupines at the NEW Zoo in Suamico

Suamico - The NEW Zoo has two different types of porcupines in its exhibit.

One of them is 7-year-old Buttercup, a prehensile tail porcupine.

The prehensile tail porcupine is from South America. It's found in the rain forest. The porcupine usually stays high up in trees, and rarely comes down to the ground.

All procupines are nocturnal. They are nearsighted, but can hear and smell great.

The prehensile tail porcupine has long whiskers to feel for food in the dark.
