Suamico - The giraffes are inside for winter at the NEW Zoo in Suamico. They go inside the Giraffe Discovery Room when the temperature dips below 45 degrees.
Zookeepers have an enrichment program for the giraffes. They eat their food from the bottom of a pail. Their tongues are almost 20 inches long, and giraffes use them to get the food out. The animals have to work for their food, much like they would if they were eating leaves from the tops of trees in the wild.
The giraffes have been at the NEW Zoo for 7 years.
