Suamico - Neil Anderson explains the different sleep habits of animals at the NEW Zoo in Suamico.

On average, giraffes need about two hours of sleep each day. A general rule of thumb for animals is the larger the animal, the less sleep it needs.

A giraffe can sleep standing up or laying down.

You can tell a giraffe is dreaming because it has a different posture. It will be laying down, with its head tucked back, and its body will be limp.

Lions, however, get a lot more sleep.

They sleep about 20 hours a day. That's because carnivores need more sleep than other animals.

More sleep for the lions helps keep their immune system in check as well.

So what about the ducks?

Neil says ducks sleep in a row.

The ducks on the outside of the row sleep with half their brain.
