SUAMICO - The red-tailed boa is getting ready to shed its skin at the NEW Zoo in Suamico.
The boa is named Issabella. It has moved into an exhibit inside the new education building, where it's adjusting to the new environment.
NEW Zoo Director Neil Anderson says zookeepers will keep an eye on the snake as it sheds, to make sure the skin comes off completely. Anderson says the shed gives a good indication of health and environment.
Snakes will shed their entire lives, because their skin doesn't grow as they grow. Shedding usually takes 7-14 days.
Also, are you looking to get involved with the NEW Zoo's Summer Zoo Camps?
They will have programs for children ranging from 5 year-old Kindergartners to children in the 7th grade.
Children will learn a about wild animals as well as animals in their own back yard.
Programs will begin at 8:45am and end at 2:00pm each day of the program.
The cost per day is $20 for Zoo Pass members or $25 for non-Zoo Pass members.
