Green Bay - Thrifty consumer Jennifer Jacobson Carew of Green Bay Consumer, shows us how to save a lot of money by using reusable containers at lunchtime and by making your own laundry detergent.
Here's the recipe for the detergent:
(prices are from Woodmans)
1 bar finely grated soap like Fels Naptha or Zote $.99/bar
1 cup borax $.34 ($3.29 for 76 oz)
1 cup washing soda $.42 ($2.89 for 55 oz box)
= $1.75 for 4 cups detergent
Use 2Tbl a load to start and adjust if necessary
$.02 a load!
