ASHWAUBENON - The Fox River Cleanup Project is moving along smoothly.
Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said the goal of the project is to remove contaminated PCB sediment from the river.
PCB's are byproducts of ( carbonless copy making process) or papermaking and have been linked to cancer.
"We are now in year 4 of the 9-year cleanup effort," Dale Rezabek, a Wastewater Specialist with the Wisconsin DNR said. "In 2009 cleanup of the first segment of the river, Little Lake Buttes de Morts, was completed and has been successful in terms of cleaner water and fish."
Crews has been working on the last 7-mile segment of the River from the De Pere dam to the mouth of Green Bay.
FOX 11's Emily Deem was out near the Fox River, Tuesday morning with an update on the project.
