Coming in at number five was a story of the luck of the draw: a homeless couple in Green Bay won a trip to the Super Bowl.

Ouida Wright knew the secret phrase to give a mystery man from the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"Can you imagine a homeless person who can't afford a movie gets to go to the Super Bowl?" Wright said on Jan. 29.

CNN.com picked up the story, and it saw just less than 41,000 page views.

Our number four story comes from Door County.

In November, Melissa Martinez was charged in connection with the death of her eight-month-old daughter, Elena. The baby's lifeless body was found in a running car outside her home. Police say they found Melissa Martinez inside, drunk.

"You really can't put words on it," Door County District Attorney Ray Pelrine said on Nov. 8.

That story came in around 41,800 page views.

Our number 3 story might give the phrase "lemon law" a new meaning.

In July, Appleton police issued a "mea culpa," saying one of their officers was wrong when he shut down a children's lemonade stand.

"He told us that everybody is human and people make mistakes," Lydia Coenen, one of the girls running the stand, said on July 20.

The confusion arose from a new city ordinance, intended to protect vendors at a nearby car show.

With lots of traffic coming from a link on CNN.com, that story had about 45,500 hits.

Our second-most-viewed story was much more somber.

It was the March shooting in Fond du Lac, where police officer Craig Birkholz was killed. Two other officers and a police dog were also injured.

"It is our understanding that the suspect, who is 30-year-old James Cruckson, died at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Fond du Lac Deputy Police Chief Kevin Lemke said on March 20.

That story, which was picked up by websites around the country, saw more than 52,000 page views.

And our most-viewed story of 2011 came almost a year ago, when a historic book turned up at a small Lutheran school in Bonduel – a Bible, experts say, which was printed in 1670 in Germany.

"To hold something that tells us, in 1670, the same message of God's grace and Christ, that we tell one another today, that helps me to be even more thankful," Rev. Timothy Shoup, the pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, said on Jan. 11.

That story, which was linked on dozens of other websites, like CNN.com and fark.com, received more than 75,000 page views.
