Save money with Facebook and Twitter

For many people, part of getting the Sunday paper is looking for and clipping coupons.

That's where seven out of every 10 coupons comes from, according to the market research firm Experian Simmons. But in the last three years, the number of people getting their coupons online is up 46 percent.

So where do you go to get them? Try Facebook and Twitter.

On Twitter, for example, there's an account called Coupon Tweet. It sends out online discount codes and coupons for everything from computers and cell phones - to groceries, in the form of coupons you clip and use right at the store.

Cheap Tweet is another, similar resource.

Companies are also using Facebook to get out the word on deals and sales. For example, last summer, the Milwaukee Brewers gave their Facebook fans exclusive tips on ticket deals.

Some stores will also announce sales and discounts on Facebook.

In fact, the digital marketing firm Razorfish says around 37 percent of Facebook and MySpace users connect with a brand to get exclusive deals and offers. On Twitter, the number's even higher - about 44 percent.

Bottom line? If you like a particular store or brand, see if they have a Twitter or Facebook account. You might get a leg up on special sales or discounts.
