MADISON (AP) - Gov. Jim Doyle has vetoed a bill that was designed to make state buildings more environmentally friendly.
He also signed a bill that allows energy generation produced from burning garbage to be classified as renewable, thereby helping companies meet the state's renewable energy mandate.
Doyle said Wednesday that signing that bill was difficult because a separate measure to increase the renewable energy mandate didn't pass. But Doyle says the bill he signed will benefit Wisconsin-based clean energy companies.
Doyle says the measure he vetoed was unworkable and would have resulted in all current maintenance projects being delayed indefinitely. The bill required all state building funds be made available to meet certain green building requirements.
