Ingredients:
1 12-oz jimmy dean sausage
3 Tbsp butter
1/4 cup flour
3 cups milk
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Biscuits
1/3 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup milk
Directions:
For biscuits: Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt with pastry blender until mixture is just blended like large marbles. Stir in just enough milk so dough leaves side of bowl, and round into a ball.
Turn dough on lightly floured surface. Knead 10 times, roll 1/2 inch thick. Cut with floured 2 -inch biscuit cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart. Bake until golden brown 10-12 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet immediately.
For sausage gravy, brown sausage in a large skillet, cook until brown. Remove sausage with slotted spoon, leave dripping's in pan. Stir in butter until melted. Add flour and stir about 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk and cook until it starts to thicken. Season with salt and pepper, stir in sausage. Reduce heat and simmer about 10 minutes until thickened. Serve sausage gravy over biscuits.
Optional: Place two over easy eggs on top of biscuits and gravy.
