OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea (AP) - President Barack Obama told U.S. troops stationed in South Korea that their service has ensured peace in Asia and around the world.
The U.S. fought for South Korea during the Korean War. Nearly 30,000 U.S. troops remain to monitor the cease-fire signed with North Korea.
The Osan Air Base is the final stop on Obama's eight-day Asia trip. It was the third time the commander in chief has addressed U.S. troops since beginning deliberations on how many more troops to send into the Afghanistan war.
Obama told the troops that while he would not hesitate to use force to defend the U.S., he won't risk their lives unless it is absolutely necessary.
