OCONTO COUNTY - An Oconto County man has learned his punishment for poisoning 193 turkeys.
Fifty-year-old Mark Kostreva of Pound was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of mistreatment of animals. During his sentencing hearing, Kostreva was given two years probation, a $3,500 fine and was ordered to complete 200 hours of community service.
One felony count remains against Kostreva. It will be dismissed and erased from his record if he completes the above terms.
Prosecutors said Kostreva mixed anti-freeze with corn and put it out for the turkeys. According to the criminal complaint, Kostreva told investigators he had repeated problems with turkeys eating the feed on his farm.
Officials say the fine will go to the state's wild animal
protection fund.
