ATHENS, Greece - The Green Bay women’s basketball wrapped up its eight-day, four-game tour of Greece Wednesday with a 73-53 victory over Amaryllis Vrilission, a club team in northern Athens.
Julie Wojta guided the Phoenix with a team-high 14 points, all in the second half, as Green Bay overcame a slow start to the contest. Twelve of Wojta’s points came in the team’s key 26-13 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
Joining Wojta in double figures were Morgan Faase and Hannah Quilling, who had 13 and 12 points, respectively. A trio of players added eight points for the Phoenix, including Celeste Hoewisch.
Green Bay trailed by as much as six points in the first quarter, but regained its momentum to take a 19-17 lead at the end of the first stanza. After Amaryllis scored the first basket of the second quarter, Green Bay then scored the next five points and never looked back.
The Phoenix defense helped hold Amaryllis in check, as the squad grabbed 17 steals on 24 turnovers. Hoewisch led the way with four takeaways, part of a balanced game for the junior-to-be which included four rebounds and a team-best six assists.
Despite being whistled for five personal fouls, Kayla Tetschlag led Green Bay with six rebounds.
