MADISON - Luxemburg Casco softball coach Don Schoen told his team he'd propose to his girlfriend if the Spartans won the Division 2 state championship.

If Coach Schoen holds up his end of the bargain, there's going to be a Mrs. Schoen in the future.

Lux-Casco playing Monroe in the Division 2 championship game. In the fourth inning, Steffi Kinnard singles to left Michelle Mleziva scores the Spartans are up 2-0.

To the sixth, Kinnard singles to center - Mleziva blazes home from second L-C up 3-0.

Each team would score a run after that and Luxemburg-Casco wins its first ever softball state championship. Here's the soon to be engaged Don Schoen

"This is an awesome feeling, especially for the girls," Schoen said. "Where the came from in the beginning of the season to where they are now, I'm so proud of what they've done. The team came together and did an awesome job."

Laconia and Grantsburg playing in the Division 3 final game.

In the bottom of the third inning - Grantsburg's Heather Davison delivers a base hit that scores a run and the Pirates build a 3-0 lead

Laconia had a heck of a time trying to solve Michelle Lund - she threw a complete game two hit shutout

Laconia's first trip to state ends with a 3-0 loss in the championship game.

"I was actually a part of the team that was first time regional champs, first time sectional champs and first time to state," said senior shortstop Kristyn Schmidt. "It's an amazing feeling that I'll never forget and our community will never forget. I hope we can be remembered at Laconia for this."

Oakfield and Thorp meet in the Division 4 championship game.

To the bottom of the fifth we go - Patti Bovee base knock - two runs score Oaks pulling away 4-0

An inning later - Bethanee Dix comes through with another hit and another two runs cross the plate

Oakfield needed only one run run - pitcher Ashley Holz throws the first perfect game in state championship history.

Oakfield beats Thorp 6-0 and wins the state championship thanks in part to a great pitching effort by a freshman.

"They might have relied on me but I relied on them more," said Holz. "I just wanted to throw strikes and I didn't care even if they did hit it. I have a lot of confidence in my defense and they did a great job."

"Our defense was exactly what we expect out of our kids," said Oakfield head coach Doug Mock. "They were perfect. It was lights out. Our pitching was awesome, defense was awesome. We hit the ball really well. It was exactly the way you want to play the last game of the year."
