TWO RIVERS - A special event took place Saturday for a Two Rivers man dying of cancer.
Twenty-eight-year-old Eric McLean was diagnosed with Leukemia nearly 10 years ago.
The 3rd annual blood drive and marrow donor registration event took place to help raise awareness.
The event was held at the Hamilton Community House and was organized by McLean's family.
Eric's sister, Lindsey, says it's important for community members to be aware of the importance of donating blood.
"I wish people understood the importance of donating blood and being on the bone marrow registry, more than they do,” says Lindsey McLean. “Sometimes it's really difficult to find blood donors and I think its more important than people give it credit for. Eric's received countless units of blood over the years and that wouldn't be possible it it wasn't for blood donors, so…saving lives."
Eric McLean has been keeping an online journal about his battle with cancer.
He recently released a final confession video, explaining that doctors say he has less than 18 months to live.
His video has received more than 600,000 hits.
