GREEN BAY - For many people in Green Bay, the number four has one meaning. And for the Bullfrogs, it has no place on its active roster anymore.
“Nobody will be able to wear number four ever again,” said Trevor Ramseier, who does Bullfrogs Promotions.
Ramseier says the team came up with "Retire #4 Night" so people in Green Bay could move on from Brett Favre.
“We're going to retire number four, literally take it off the back of any player that has it on tonight. Get rid of it,” said Ramseier
And he wasn't kidding. A Bullfrogs assistant coach has claimed the number four as his jersey number. But on Monday, he stripped it off and traded it in for the number 15, right on the field.
The gimmick was supposed to be a fun entertaining event for Bullfrogs fans. But some people in the stands couldn't help but discuss, should Favre's number really be retired?
“I think I would like to see it retired. I think the Packers should retire it. I think he should go as a Packer,” said Patrick Phillips, Green Bay.
“I mean, he's a good player and everything but it's a little early I think still for the whole retiring his number,” said Nicole Noe, Green Bay.
“There's still a lot of people that are die-hard fans around here, big Favre fans and a good amount that don't like him anymore,” said Packers offensive lineman T.J. Lang.
Lang threw out the first pitch of the game. He says retiring the number at Bullfrogs' Joannes Stadium is all in good fun, but when it comes down to actually retiring the number, “I think it's a matter of time before the Packers start showing their respect for the guy 'cause he did a lot for the franchise,” said Lang.
But for now, the Bullfrogs say they are the only team in Green Bay that can boast having retired the well-known number four.
The Bullfrogs say they have never retired a number before, but they will if a player ever makes it to Major League Baseball.
