Appleton - Federal authorities say an Appleton murder suspect could be in the country illegally.

Outagamie County prosecutors say Gerardo Gomez-Galvan killed Hilario Nava-Samoza during an argument in November of 2006.

Gomez-Galvan was back in court for a competency hearing today. Doctors say it is unlikely Gomez-Galvan will ever be competent to stand trial.

However, those proceeding are now on hold. A Dec. 4 hearing is scheduled, at which time the charges could be dismissed in favor of deportation.

Federal immigration officials say Gomez-Galvan may have been in the country illegally since 1974.
