APPLETON (AP) - A Minnesota man accused of posing as a cop and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl outside the Fox River Mall has pleaded not guilty.
Thirty-five-year-old Jamie Sames of Shakopee is charged with second-degree sexual assault, child enticement and impersonating a police officer to aid in the commission of a crime. He entered his plea Friday in Outagamie County District Court.
Prosecutors say Sames followed two girls out of Target on March 10, said he was a police officer and accused them of shoplifting. The girl testified at a preliminary hearing last month that Sames took her behind a trash bin and groped her.
Defense Attorney Nila Robinson asked to dismiss the case, arguing the prosecution didn't show probable cause. The request wasn't ruled on Friday.
Trial was set for September.
