GRAND CHUTE - Fresh off his annual address to the state legislature, Governor Doyle was in the Fox Valley.
His goal: a new loan plan for businesses, called Green to Gold. The idea is to encourage businesses to use alternative energy.
"It is a way that we can help manufacturers reduce their costs, be more profitable, create good jobs, and be good stewards of our environment," said Doyle.
Some Republicans don't think the state can afford it.
"I think Republicans are open to the concept,” said Rep. Dean Kaufert (R-Neenah). “We just have some questions. Exactly what's it going to entail, where's the money going to come from."
Doyle says the 100 million dollar plan is self-funded. Some of the money comes from the federal stimulus act. Other money comes from existing funds. He says if businesses commit to green energy, it will lead to a boost in employment.
"I think we all believe that we should be focused on what we do to bring that unemployment rate down and put many more of our people to work," said Doyle.
Whatever the ideas may be, there is bipartisan support to bring down the unemployment rate.
