APPLETON - Appleton’s Lawrence University is the best college in Wisconsin, according to one magazine’s rankings.
Forbes.com ranked Lawrence number 50 out of 610 U.S. colleges in its third annual “America’s Best Colleges” report. According to Forbes.com , the rankings are based on student satisfaction, postgraduate success, student debt, four-year graduation rate and competitive awards.
Six of the top 15 institutions were liberal arts colleges like Lawrence, with many large state universities landing well below.
Eleven Wisconsin colleges made the list. Besides Lawrence, Beloit College (125), St. Norbert College (152), Carroll University (184), Ripon College (195), the University of Wisconsin-Madison (212), Wisconsin Lutheran College (238), Marquette University (330), Carthage College (480), UW-Milwaukee (572) and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (574) made the list.
Overall, the top-ranked college was Williams College in Willamstown, Mass.
