MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin lawmakers are still working with Gov. Jim Doyle and others to come up with changes in law so the state can qualify for federal education stimulus money.
Wisconsin is one of only three states that has a law that will disqualify it from qualifying for more than $4 billion in money under the "Race to the Top" program.
The law in question forbids student test results from being used to evaluate teachers.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called a special session for that state's Legislature to take up changes so it can qualify. Nevada has a similar ban.
Wisconsin Democratic state Rep. Sondy Pope-Roberts of Verona said Tuesday there is general agreement on how to change the state's law. She expects a bill to pass in coming weeks.
