It's the ultimate goal of any high school football season "get the gold."

The first Northeast Wisconsin team with a shot is the St. Mary's Springs Ledgers. They are looking to cap-off a perfect season with a Division 5 championship.

“It's just crazy. We've all dreamed of it. We watch them every year like, 'they're going to state, wish we could do that.' Now it's like we can,” said Kyle Kiefer, a senior lineman at St. Mary’s Springs.

Head coach Kurt Flaten and his undefeated Kewaunee Indians are headed to state for the fourth time since 2001, but are still looking for that first elusive gold ball.

"It was a good experience because it helps with the nerves this year. We've just been telling them you've got to work. Because you don't get this opportunity too often,” said Tanner Ledvina, a senior wide receiver/defensive back at Kewaunee.

The 2009 Phantoms have already done something no other West De Pere team has.

"We already get to say we're the first to play down there. To be able to make the next step would be even better,” said Michael Linssen, a senior quarterback at West De Pere.

While in Division 2, the Kimberly Papermakers are looking to bring home back-to-back-to-back championships.

“It's just so exciting for our senior class to be able to pull off what we have. Because there were doubts but now we just have to finish it off,” said Logan Hietpas, a senior linebacker at Kimberly.
