GREEN BAY, Wis. - Many runners are hitting the Fox River Trail, preparing for next month's Cellcom Green Bay Half Marathon.

The 13.1 mile race will end at Lambeau Field, with more runners than ever before. But those still vying for a slot may be out of luck.

“We sold out one thousand more and 10 days earlier than last year with five thousand participants in the half marathon as compared to four thousand last year,” said race director Sean Ryan.

Ryan said the popularity of the race is growing, and he only sees it gaining momentum with time.

“It'll sell out earlier next year, and it will sell out earlier the year after that because people know if they don't register early enough they're gonna miss the boat,” said Ryan.

First time half marathon runner Brenda Blink is one of those who almost missed the boat. She signed up a week before the race sold out after some coaxing from her co-workers.

“When they talked me into it I was like okay, we gotta sign up right away because I've been hearing that it's been filling up, filling up, filling up,” said Blink.

Runner Brian Wallace signed up months ago, making sure he secured himself a spot and making sure he'd be in shape.

“Unless you've been training up to this point, it might be a little too late anyways,” said Wallace.

While the race is capped at 5,000 runners for the half marathon, Ryan says there is still a way some people who missed registration can participate.

“Talk to your friends who maybe registered for the half marathon. They are able to transfer their entries so they can maybe find someone who's not going to use their bib number,” said Ryan.

Otherwise, he said those who ran out of time will have to wait until next year.
