GREEN BAY - After two years of preparation, two area fire departments will join forces.
The Green Bay and Allouez departments held a contract signing Friday to confirm the consolidation.
The agreement will last for 15 years.
They will now operate under the name Green Bay Metro Fire Department.
Mayor Schmitt says this wasn't an easy process.
"This didn't just happen. I've been mayor for 10 year and this was tried before," said Schmitt. Adding, "But I think the time is right now for more cooperation, more regionalism and a stronger, greater Green bay community."
The village will keep it's six member crew, and will retain ownership of the station on Dauphin Street.
