LU alum nominated to ambassador post

Christopher Murray picked for Republic of Congo

A Lawrence University alumnus has been nominated to serve as ambassador to the Republic of Congo.

President Barack Obama nominated Christopher Murray to the post Tuesday. Murray is a 1975 Lawrence graduate.

A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Murray has been a long-time foreign service officer in the U.S. Department of State and currently serves as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassies in Lebanon and Algeria.

His other overseas assignments include Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Jamaica. He also has served in the Bureaus of Nonproliferation, European Affairs, International Organizations, and African Affairs in Washington, D.C..

In addition to his degree in government from Lawrence, he earned a law degree from Cornell University.

David Mulford, a 1959 Lawrence graduate, served as Ambassador to India from 2004-09.
