APPLETON - A Minnesota man convicted of posing as a police officer and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl has learned his punishment.

Jamie Sames, 36, was sentenced Wednesday in Outagamie County court to ten years in prison and 12 years supervision. He must also register as a sex offender.

In October, Sames accepted a plea deal to avoid a jury trial.

The assault happened in March outside the Fox River Mall in Grand Chute - about a 250-mile drive from Sames' home in Shakopee, Minn.

During his sentencing, Sames' tearful apology unleashed a flood of harsh words from the judge.

"Your life centered on adult pornography, phone sex, strip clubs, prostitutes and voyerism, that's what you're all about," Judge John Des Jardins said.

In court, Sames took responsibility for the mall assualt that rocked the Fox Valley.

"I have taken the safe feeling away from the members of this community and to them I say I'm sorry," he said wiping his eyes.

Sames also addressed his then 13-year-old victim, apologizing for her anxiety, pain and fear.

"I'm so very sorry she has had to deal with these feelings because of me, it is not fair for her to have to suffer for someone else's actions," he told the court.

However, Sames' words did little to quell the anger of Des Jardins. He called Sames' crime chilling as he railed against internet pornography.

"Repeated viewing of this type of material rots their inner soul," Des Jardins said of those who view it. "They do not have feelings toward their victims, they do not have feelings for an unsuspecting, vulnerable child at the mall.

The victim and her family did not address the court, but Sames' father did; offering a painful apology.

"I'm sorry this is a little harder than I thought he would be," Roger Sames said with emotion.  "His family stands by him and they offer support."

District Attorney Carrie Schneider says the victim and her family is happy Sames will spend ten years behind bars.

"They're relieved ironically to get this done before Christmas," she said. "They can kind of close this door, try to move on and forward."

This is not the end of Sames' troubles. Prosecutors expect in the next few weeks he will be transported to Minnesota to appear on charges of child pornography.
