ASHWAUBENON - Instead of raising the roof, a Green Bay man is hoping he'll be able to raise money by living on a roof for ten days.
Joel Stratton, the market growth manager of Acts 1:8 Ministry, is trying to raise $25,000 to help build water towers in Uganda, Africa.
To help reach his goal, Stratton is going to live on the roof of Margarita's restaurant in Ashwaubenon for ten days. He says he will not be coming down from the roof at any point.
“People think its crazy, but in my experience the more crazy you can be, the more awareness is going to get out there,” said Stratton.
According to the Acts 1:8 Ministry web site, 23,000 kids die each year in Uganda because of unsanitary drinking water.
“People think its crazy, but in my experience the more crazy you can be, the more awareness is going to get out there,” said Stratton.
The awareness Stratton wants echoing from his rooftop is the need for clean drinking water in Uganda, Africa. For 600 dollars a piece, the Acts 1:8 Ministry has been helping to build new water towers in the African community.
“We built 45 towers over there in Uganda already in the last four years and we're looking to build 42 more,” said Stratton.
Stratton says he is prepared for anything. He has the essentials, including a portable shower and toilet.
“I'm not even a camper so this is going to be huge for me,” said Stratton.
Stratton has plans for company throughout his stay, ranging from Packers personnel to the city's mayor and of course friends and family.
“Anybody could stand in front of a camera and just say give me money, but he's willing to do something for that to have people donate,” said Brad Stratton, Joel Stratton’s brother.
As for Stratton's roof of choice, it was all about location.
“We're looking for a lot of exposure right here on Lombardi,” said Stratton.
“I think it's for a great cause and I give him much kudos,” said Tim Kuehn, the owner of Margarita’s. “Ten days is a long time.”
“As long as I can withstand the heat, I’ll be fine,” said Stratton.
To donate to the cause you can head to the Acts 1:8 Ministry web site.
