BERLIN - A 50-year-old man was found dead in a home in the City of Berlin after a situation that required the assistance of a SWAT unit.
Police found Michael Post when they entered the home on the corner of Oak Street and East Liberty Street at about 9:17 Wednesday night. Several people in the area were evacuated before police entered the house.
At about 5:45 the Green Lake Sheriff's Office received several 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area.
Berlin police found an injured 46-year-old woman, identified as Tane Thomas, at the scene. She was transported by ambulance to Berlin Hospital, then flown to Theda Clark in Neenah.
Police say Thomas is in stable condition and remains hospitalized. Police say she suffered a single gun shot wound, however they could not say how Post died.
Officers say the couple had been together for five years and owned the home where the incident took place. They were not married. Neighbors say the couple had recently moved into the home.
The tactical unit attempted to reach Post on the phone and by loud speaker before entering the residence.
"Certainly the safety of the residents and the officers was a concern," Berlin Police Chief Dennis Plantz said.
The Green Lake Sheriff’s Department says the case remains under investigation.
