APPLETON - Once again, community donations to Salvation Army red kettles in the Appleton area triggered a matching donation from an area company.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans promised to match up to $100,000 donated to red kettles last Friday. On Wednesday, the company announced that $172,052.65 had been donated to the kettles, triggering the full match.
With the match, a total of $272,052.65 was raised for the red kettle campaign. The Appleton-based Salvation Army-Fox Cities has a goal of $1.2 million for the 2011 campaign, which runs through Dec. 24.
This was the eighth year Thrivent has matched red kettle donations. The match days have raised a total of $1.8 million in that time.
