OSHKOSH - Oshkosh police are still searching for the driver of an SUV involved in the death of a woman Friday morning.

The 53-year-old victim has been identified as Gina Micheln.

Police say around 2 a.m., an alleged drunken driver hit Micheln at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Ohio Street.

Micheln died at the hospital, but police say she was hit by a second vehicle.

It was just before closing time when the 53-year-old was struck just down the street from the Ohio Street Station. Shelli Bauldry was tending bar Thursday night and had just closed up minutes before the accident.

"As I was leaving there was an officer running down the road and the cops had just gotten there," said Bauldry.

Police say Micheln was struck in the middle of the intersection at Eighth Avenue and Ohio Street and dragged down to Seventh Avenue where she was struck by a second car-- a vehicle police are still searching for.

"The driver of the vehicle, either he or she is aware that they struck the person and coming to a stop or slowing down and then leaving," said Oshkosh Police Sergeant Eric Stenson.

Police say the 45-year-old Oshkosh woman who hit Micheln had been drinking. That woman was arrested and booked in the Winnebago County Jail. Police say they don't know of any relationships between the victim and either driver. They also are still investigating what the people involved were doing before the accident.

"There are some local bars in the area and some businesses, but I am not sure where they were coming from," said Stenson.

Bauldry says she doesn't think any of the people involved in the crash were in the bar before the incident, but she says she still can't believe what happened.

"It's shocking, and it's just carelessness you know," said Bauldry.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Police say they are searching for the driver of a white Ford Expedition or Explorer type SUV.

The SUV was last seen traveling east on Sixth Avenue.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Oshkosh Police Department at (920) 236-5700.
