A new defense against vandalism

APPLETON - We introduced you to Bobbi Leitsch last week. She lives in Appleton and has two sons and a son-in-law in the military.

Leitsch told FOX 11 the Christmas tree she'd set up to honor the military was vandalized twice, as was her American flag in the past.

Well, since our last story, Leitsch has gotten some help.

This mobile video security system can be seen at events such as Country USA and AirVenture, but right now it's in Bobbi Leitsch's front yard in Appleton.

"I don't know what to think, it's wild!" exclaimed Leitsch.

Mitch Christian donated use of the equipment after hearing Leitsch's military Christmas tree was vandalized.

"I thought the least I could do was help out here. My father was a Korean War vet, my son is early entry into the Army," explained Christian.

Christian owns the machine as part of his company, Cyber Consulting and Security. He usually rents it out to construction companies or big events.

"There's two very high-resolution, high-powered cameras that do recording and record everything that's going on at all times," said Christian.

So if someone were to come and try to knock the tree over again, they'd probably notice the cameras. Inside the house, the Leitsches would notice that person on the video feed.

"This should help protect it, and even if someone does something, at least we can ID them," said Christian.

For her part, Leitsch is stunned.

"I am very grateful to him. I know it means a lot to him too," said Leitsch.

"We can never pay enough tribute to our troops," said Christian.

Leitsch told us she can't believe her little tree has warranted this kind of response.

"With other military family friends on Facebook, they're telling me it's not just my tree anymore. It's all of theirs too," said Leitsch.

And now with its new guard the little tree can hopefully continue to bring light to the troops these holidays.

Christian said he will leave his security cameras up as long as the display is up. Leitsch told us the display will come down after Christmas.
