APPLETON - A health system that owns hospitals in the Fox Valley is changing hands.
Affinity Health System , which owns St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh and Calumet Medical Center in Chilton, has announced Ministry Health Care will take over sole sponsorship of the company. Since 1996, Ministry and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare have been co-sponsors of Affinity.
Besides the three hospitals, Affinity owns 26 clinics and employs 4,000 people. The company’s Network Health Plan also provides health insurance to 133,000 people in Northeast Wisconsin.
Ministry’s sponsor, the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, founded Mercy Medical Center in 1891. Wheaton Franciscan’s sponsor, the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters, founded St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1899.
Ministry owns 15 hospitals and 47 clinics in Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota.
