APPLETON (Appleton Police Department) - Appleton's annual Christmas Parade is set for Tuesday. Kicking off the event will be the Santa Scamper Run which begins at 6:02 p.m. The parade is set to begin at 6:38 p.m.

Because of the large number of participants, there will be several traffic restrictions in place prior to the evening events.

The staging for the parade will occur on State Street, between College Avenue and Fourth Street. The staging area will be closed off at 5:00 p.m. This will affect east west cross traffic at State and Eighth, Seventh, Sixth, Fifth, and Fourth Streets. At 5:00 p.m., Lawrence Street will become a one way street eastbound between Memorial Drive and Superior Street.

Parking will be allowed on College Avenue until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Police will begin ticketing and towing violators in the staging area and on the College Avenue parade route shortly after 4:00 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., College Avenue will be closed off to east and west traffic between Memorial Drive and Lawe Street. Cross traffic will be allowed at Walnut, Superior, Durkee, and Drew Streets until 5:45 p.m., while cross traffic at Appleton and Morrison will be allowed until 6:00 p.m.

The Memorial Drive and downtown area will become quite congested after 5:00 p.m. Motorists should plan accordingly. Motorists looking to avoid the area or cross the river should consider using Lawe Street or the College Avenue Bridge.
