Appleton council delays vote

APPLETON - Wednesday night, the Appleton City Council postponed a vote to override Mayor Hanna's first ever veto.

The decision was made, because four alderpersons were absent. The vote is rescheduled for the council's next meeting in two weeks.

The mayor vetoed a move by the council earlier this month that would remove a three day waiting period on workman's compensation claims for non-union city employees.

As it stands now under the veto, any non-union employees hurt on the job do not get the first three days of workman's compensation paid for unless they're out for at least seven days total. Those employees would have to use vacation or personal days.

The council will need a two-thirds majority to overturn the mayor's veto.
