APPLETON - A new landmark along the Fox River in Appleton is taking shape.
Warm weather is helping speed up construction of a lighthouse outside the Appleton Yacht Club near Lutz Park. The lighthouse is part of a $600,000 expansion of the club’s facility. The framework of the lighthouse is expected to be finished in the middle of the month, with the entire project on pace to be completed near mid-February – several weeks ahead of schedule.
The club is planning several open houses after the clubhouse is finished, with a grand opening in the spring to allow for boat rides and viewing the clubhouse and lighthouse from the water.
The club, a private organization, is paying for the expansion through fundraising efforts.
