Bald eagle enthusiasts flock to Fox River

FOX VALLEY - You may not know it, but the Fox Valley is home to a large population of bald eagles.

The Thousand Islands Environmental Center hosted the first-ever Eagle Days Saturday.

The event was aimed at helping people get out and see some of the birds firsthand.

Anyone could become a bird watcher for the day on the center's self-guided tour.

Visitors were given a number of viewing sites to choose from along the Fox River.

The center's naturalists say the open water of the river provides an excellent habitat for the eagles, and makes them fairly easy to find.

"They're definitely out there. They do tend to move from site to site, and throughout the day. But they're definitely there if you go out looking for them," said naturalist Debbie Nowak.

Nowak said people can find the eagles any time of the season.

Some helpful tips are to go along the river and take some time to look.
