Campbellsport copes with another fatal crash

CAMPBELLSPORT - The Campbellsport area says it's coming together in the wake of two fatal car crashes only a day apart.

The most recent involved a high school student driving a truck.

Investigators say 17-year-old Nicholos Stahl unintentionally backed into a shed, in Ashford. His uncle died.

That driver is connected to the victim in yet another fatal crash earlier this year.

“There's no doubt it pulls up some bad and definitely scary memories from the past,” said Campbellsport High School principal Kristen Langer.

As Campbellsport still reels from the reckless driving homicide sentencing of 19-year-old Carly Ottery, two more tragedies strike from behind the wheel.

“Friday morning we lost a student and two of our other students are seriously injured,” said Langer.

The school prepared to stay goodbye to 17-year-old Giovanni Clouse. But they're also dealing with the news of another crash.

Authorities say Stahl backed into a shed. His uncle, 59-year-old Robert Stahl, died at the scene. Three others were injured.

It's not the first death to hit the Stahl family this year. 15-year-old Sabrina Stahl was one of three students killed in February.

“Unfortunately, his sister was killed in the February car accident. So, we're really upset. A lot of hope, a lot of prayer for that family,” said Langer.

With now the third fatal accident involving a Campbellsport High School student this year, students and staff say the students are coping the best they can, and the community has reached out with support.

“What we have going on right now is sad. But I know somehow we, all of us, will pull through this, and we will move forward,” said Langer.

Three others suffered minor injuries in Saturday night's crash. The two other students from Friday morning's crash remain hospitalized in critical condition.
