APPLETON - This may be the season for shopping, but not every gift will be bought in a store.
The 15th annual Alternative Christmas Market was open at an Appleton church Sunday.
The festive event held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ offered unique gift options.
Shoppers could also buy donations in the name of someone on their lists.
Gifts included school supplies for children in Haiti, and donations to local charities.
Organizers said the gifts emphasize the true spirit of Christmas.
"This gets at the heart of the Christian message of Christmas, which is to show love for other people. You're spending your money in a way that is really going to affect people around the globe," said volunteer Carol Hollar-Zwick.
Recipients will be given a special card with a description of the donation.
Those still hoping to purchase an alternative gift can call the church office at (920) 733-7393.
