FOND DU LAC - The man police say is responsible for a deadly crash is headed to trial. The crash happened a few weeks ago in Fond du Lac County. It involved a car and a dozen motorcycles. Two riders were killed. Seven others were injured, two of them are still in intensive care.

Friday the car's driver appeared in Fond du Lac County court for his preliminary hearing.

Clinton Lovelace, 25, from Hilbert faces six charges so far, the most serious, second-degree reckless homicide. He is currently in the Fond du Lac County jail.

Lovelace arrived at court in a wheelchair Friday. He faced dozens of motorcycle riders who came to show support for the crash victims.

"To truly show that this is a motorcycle community that's very tight-knit, we're all about brotherhood and sisterhood, we're gonna follow this through," said motorcyclist Tim Tomann with ABATE Wisconsin.

During proceedings, the prosecutor called three witnesses to the stand from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department. The first described an interview with a witness to the crash.

"He said it was mass chaos, as you can imagine, he said he saw the vehicle hit numerous bikes," said Deputy Jim Borgen.

The second described what he found in Lovelace's pockets after the crash: syringes, which he's not supposed to have, because of bail restrictions in Calumet County, and small squares of brown paper, that the witness said contained drugs.

"Hits of acid," said Deputy James Pfeiffer, "acid," meaning the drug LSD.

But Lovelace's lawyer pointed out there still needs to be testing done to prove that was, in fact, LSD. She also told the judge there's not enough evidence against her client.

"We would move to dismiss, for the record," said Mary Wolfe.

The judge, however, disagreed.

"Clearly there is probable cause to believe that a felony was committed," said Judge Gary Sharpe.

Now Lovelace is headed to trial.

Tomann told us he has been keeping in touch with the victim's families. He said many local bikers have reached out to them.

"It's just mind-boggling... a nightmare to those families and for all of us who ride," said Tomann.

The motorcyclist says he and the other bikers will stay with this case until justice is served.

Right now, Lovelace faces a murder charge only for the motorcyclist from Michigan who died at the crash scene. As for the second motorcyclist who died in the hospital days later, the prosecutor says no decision will be made on additional charges until toxicology test results are complete.
