BEAVER DAM - A 19-year-old Beaver Dam man is safe after his car broke through the ice on Beaver Dam Lake in Dodge County.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Department received a call about the incident around 3:15 Sunday afternoon.

Officials say the man's car was submerged up to its roof, but he was able to escape.

The man stood on top of the car until the Beaver Dam Fire Department's hovercraft came to rescue him.

He did not need medical treatment.

Authorities said there was open water in an area not far from where the car broke through.

They discourage any motor vehicle traffic on the ice.
