Victims awarded $276,000 in fake Facebook stock case

OSHKOSH - The woman convicted of selling fake Facebook stock will have to pay nearly $300,000 for her crimes.  Marianne Oleson scammed acquaintances, friends and even family.

On Wednesday, Oleson watched by teleconference as some of her victims took the stand in Oshkosh.

Randy Stafford said Oleson promised him Facebook stock in exchange for home improvements.

"Going through being scammed and the mistrust of someone you believed would make your life better," said Stafford.

Oleson defrauded several people. Some have already been repaid and some will find out how much they'll get back in the future.

The judge decided three cases Wednesday. She awarded about $276,000 total. One victim will get $234,000, another is owed about $13,000 and Stafford will get a little more than $29,000.

"I don't see how we could ever get the money back," said Stafford.

Once Oleson finishes her seven-year prison term, the court will put her on a plan to start paying her victims.

Stafford told FOX 11 it doesn't really matter whether he sees a dime of his money again.  He said he's just happy his case has been settled.

"A moral victory is all that was really needed here for me and we can always recoup our losses and just move forward," said Stafford.

The money awarded today is part of the court's criminal punishment. Some of Oleson's victims have also filed civil lawsuits against her.
