Fog causes headaches for travelers

GREENVILLE - When we met up with Judy Jewell Tuesday she'd been waiting about 6 hours for a flight out of the Outagamie County Airport.

"About a half hour after check in I found out it was delayed, then it was canceled," said Judy Jewell.

And Judy wasn't alone. Airport marketing manager Kim Sippola tells us heavy fog kept flights grounded.

"This morning a few did get out of here, but while the fog was really bad today, nothing was coming or going," said Sippola.

And as the fog started to lift locally, bad weather affected airports in other cities like Chicago.

"Some of these flights might be delayed because of another area that the plane's coming from," said Sippola.

Some decided to rent cars to reach their destinations before Wednesday's snow, but the roads were no picnic either.
Officer Jason Weber with the Town of Menasha Police Department had a reminder for drivers.

"Remember to turn their lights on. We had as little as 25 to 50 feet of visibility," said Weber.

Weber said as the weather continues to change; drivers should make sure they have an emergency car kit just in case. He also warned that if you see someone in the ditch, call for help, but don't get out of your car.

"It's best to make that phone call and continue on," explained Weber.

And back at the airport Sippola reminded passengers get in touch with airlines before going to the airport. Because the next few days could be dicey.

"You can check on their website to see what their flight schedule's looking like and also just be patient it's for your own safety," said Sippola.

A sentiment Jewell understands.

"If the pilot doesn't want to fly, I don't want to fly!" said Jewell.
