GRAND CHUTE - Crime scene tape blocks one of the entrances to the Road Star Inn in Grand Chute. The scene of an apparent homicide early Tuesday afternoon.
"The victim was a male, in his 40's and appeared to have suffered some knife wounds or wounds from some type of cutting instrument," said Grand Chute Police Chief Greg Peterson.
Peterson says around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon residents heard yelling in one of the first floor rooms. Eugene Brown says he lives across the hall from where the body was found.
"The guy started yelling, he yelled for maybe a minute or two then he started yelling help, help, help. Then it went silent and I heard a thud in between there and then it was quiet," Brown said.
Peterson adds it appears the victim struggled with his attacker.
"There are some wounds on the body that appear defensive in nature, wounds on the hands and wounds on the arms that leads us to believe that somebody else was present and that some form of foul play was involved," Peterson said.
Investigators have been searching inside the building, around the grounds and by vehicles in the parking lot.
Peterson says the victim fits the description of the man who registered the room four days ago. He also says police are still trying to determine the victim's identity.
Peterson says police do not yet have a suspect or a motive.
