NEENAH - Greetings designed to bring some holiday cheer to troops are one step closer to heading overseas.
The "Holiday Mail for Heroes" program through the American Red Cross hopes to send 20,000 Christmas cards from people in our area to servicemen and women around the world.
Wednesday volunteers dropped off the first 6,000 cards for shipment.
From store-bought to handmade, Red Cross officials say the message inside is what matters.
"When they receive these cards while serving overseas, sometimes it is the only mail they will receive in a day and it brings them hope and joy during this holiday season,” said Barbara Behling, American Red Cross.
The "Holiday Mail for Heroes" national program is now in its sixth year.
To date more than 2.6 million cards have been sent to troops worldwide.
