NEENAH - A philanthropic milestone as an area foundation marks $35 million in giving.
The J.J. Keller Foundation signified the achievement Tuesday with a $35,000 grant to the Fox Valley Literacy Council.
Earlier this year, the FVLC received a $20,000 grant from the foundation, so the second grant came as a complete surprise.
The foundation and those receiving the money, say it will go a long way in improving the community.
“The work of the Literacy Council is critical in assisting low-level readers from all walks of life in removing barriers they face because of their deficiencies,” said Robert Keller, the president of the J.J. Keller Foundation Board in a release.
“When adult learners improve their literacy skills, they reach educational goals, get better jobs and become better parents, employees and community members,” said Christine Cheevers, executive director of the Literacy Council in a release.
The J.J. Keller Foundation says it is looking toward its next $35 million in giving, which will continue to focus on organizations and programs that address the causes and consequences of poverty, in addition to specialty areas of interest such as mental illness.
